| Prescriptions Stress Home |
I am not a doctor, but from my experience I can tell you that there are all kinds of medicines out there for treating stress related symptoms. You can generally find a doctor somewhere that will give you scripts for these meds. And sometimes people need these, but generally speaking only as a bridge to the get healthy part of your life. Not as a "wall" to prevent you from experiencing stress, and one that you end up needing to maintain and increase in order to "cope". It is much better to make the necessary changes in your life than to numb yourself out with medicines that side effects are sometimes almost as bad as the symptoms you are trying to prevent. So instead try some stress reducing exercises instead. You can use bio-feedback to reduce your own brain activity and benefit from the Alpha state that your brain is craving!!! Without any side effects. And exercise will help you to increase your own naturally created Brain Drugs that help you to stay calm and happy. And a good nights sleep (and I mean at least 8 hours) can add a lot to a happier life too. If you do have the need to take or ingest something in order to feel better then there are some adaptogens that have been used for thousands of years like Ginseng. Especially Korean Red Ginseng (Panax) among several others including American, Siberian and Japanese; as well as schizandra berries, rhodiola, and others. These adaptogens tend to work in the body by improving energy levels, cleansing the body of the metabolic waste and by-products, supporting the adrenal function (and this is important) so that the effects of stress are reduced or countered, improving the utilization of oxygen and helping to build up body tissue. In general the body works more efficiently in generating and using energy, muscle tissue and counteracting the effects of modern day stress, both environmental and psychological. Korean Ginseng (Panax) The very best being the 6 year old variety, as these gives the maximum amount of time for the active ingredient, Saponins, in the root to come to its most medicinal level. This will be a whole separate article, but lets just say the health benefits can be many. Including aiding your body in coping with stress. Panax is very expensive for regular use, although many people prefer it. However, studies have shown that Siberian, or eleuthero ginseng, is a stronger adaptogen that Panax which is also called Korean or Chinese ginseng. In fact the other forms, including American and Japanese, tend to over-stimulate the body, and can also cause unwanted side effects such as constipation and over-excitement. The Siberian ginseng tends not to show these symptoms. But you really must do some research on which one is right for you. Ashwagandha Scholars at Banaras Hindu University, located in Varanasi, India, have conducted research that has shown that many of the elements of ashwagandha are antioxidants. For years, Indians have prescribed ashwagandha as a treatment for cerebral disorders in the elderly, including memory loss. Scholars from the University of Leipzig looked at the effects of ashwagandha on the brain. They dosed rats with ashwagandha and then looked at their brains to see if ashwagandha affected neurotransmitters. The research showed that ashwagandha led to more acetylcholine receptor activity. The scholars concluded that the increase of activity in that particular neurotransmitter could account for the increase in cognitive ability and memory that is attributed to ashwagandha. Both of the above have been in use for 1000's of years and do not require a prescription. However the most effective dose for you may have to be found through trial and error. These do have some side effects just like any outside substance that interacts with the body. |
